Meet The Chicago Oral Surgeons

Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after dental school. Our board-trained surgeons manage a full scope of care — from dental implants and wisdom teeth to corrective jaw and facial surgery — with IV sedation and outpatient general anesthesia in a state-of-the-art setting.

Dr. Sunil Sinha
Founder · Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Sunil Sinha

Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Dr. Sinha earned his BSc in Microbiology & Immunology from McGill University and pursued cancer research at Dalhousie before graduating at the top of his class from NYU College of Dentistry in 2002. He completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati, serving as chief resident with extensive training in orthognathic, trauma, and complex implant rehabilitation.

Board-certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery since 2010, Dr. Sinha holds privileges at Advocate Christ Hospital — the busiest Level 1 trauma center in Illinois — and has treated hundreds of facial trauma patients. He is highly experienced in implantology including the All-on-4 technique, and offers IV sedation, nitrous oxide, and oral sedation for anxious patients.

Dr. Sinha volunteers with Easter Seals and Global Dental Relief in Nepal and Kenya. He lives with his wife Dr. Gunjan Jain and their three sons.

Dr. Shuaib Malik
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Shuaib Malik

Dr. Malik earned his BSc in Bio-Physics and Molecular Biology in 1999, his dental degree from NYU College of Dentistry in 2003, and completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2008.

He specializes in complex implant cases including Bar Attachment Dentures, zygomatic and pterygoid implants, onlay symphyseal/ramus and iliac crest bone grafts, full-arch implants, and advanced facial reconstruction. He routinely performs trauma surgery, TMJ procedures, bone grafting, pathology, IV sedation, and wisdom teeth removal.

A sought-after lecturer and Key Opinion Leader for BioHorizons, Nobel Biocare, and restor3D, Dr. Malik has spoken at Mass General (Harvard) and Mayo Clinic Rochester. He has led humanitarian surgical missions to Bangladesh, Haiti, Lebanon, Cambodia, Kenya, Nepal, Sierra Leone, and Guatemala. Outside the office he is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, certified skydiver, pilot, and mountain climber.

Dr. Nick Zawada
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Nick Zawada

Dr. Nicholas Zawada earned his undergraduate degree in Human Biology from the University of Kansas in 2006. He received his Master's in Public Health and Doctor of Dental Surgery from New York University in 2012, his Doctor of Medicine from NYU School of Medicine in 2016, and completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at NYU in 2018.

Beyond his work at Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of Chicago, Dr. Zawada has traveled internationally through NYU Global Outreach programs, supervising students in exodontia and dentoalveolar surgery. In his free time he enjoys traveling, cooking, hiking, and camping.

Dr. Jamie Luria
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon · MD, DDS

Dr. Jamie Luria

Originally from suburban Detroit, Dr. Luria earned his BSc in Biopsychology from the University of Michigan in 2005 and his DDS from the University of Michigan dental school in 2009. He then completed his MD at SUNY Buffalo in 2012 and his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency there in 2015, with extensive training in trauma, orthognathic surgery, pathology, anesthesia, implants, and dentoalveolar surgery. He was board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2018.

After a year in private practice in Michigan, Dr. Luria spent five years in Chicago practicing the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, taking trauma call at Level 1 centers and helping train residents at the Cook County surgery program. He then focused for two years at a dedicated full-arch implant center on All-on-4 procedures.

A third-generation dentist, Dr. Luria takes great care to tailor surgical and anesthetic plans to each patient. He lives in downtown Chicago and roots for his Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions.

Dr. Tessie Harfuch Capdevila

Dr. Tessie Harfuch Capdevila

Born in Mexico City, Dr. Harfuch Capdevila brings an international perspective and deep cultural awareness to the practice. She completed her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Puerto Rico, with advanced training in facial trauma, reconstructive jaw surgery, complex dental implants, and head and neck pathology including cysts and tumors. She has extensive training in corrective (orthognathic) jaw surgery.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Harfuch Capdevila is known for her calm demeanor, attention to detail, and ability to build trust with patients from all backgrounds.

Outside the office she is a passionate marathon runner and triathlete who has qualified for the Boston Marathon, enjoys tennis, kite surfing, and golf, and is a proud cat lover.
